He emphasized the necessity of having the KTX-Eum stop at Namchang Station. Governor Lee stated, "Having the KTX-Eum stop at Namchang Station is a core foundation for the development of all sectors in southern Ulsan, including industry, economy, tourism, and safety."
Ulju County had previously announced the joint declaration at a meeting held on October 21 with representatives from local businesses in the Onsan National Industrial Complex and community leaders. Residents have continued their efforts to attract the KTX-Eum stop through various activities such as a walking pilgrimage from Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul to Namchang Station, concerts, and nationwide wish prayer tours.
Governor Lee also visited the Railway Investment and Development Division to express his gratitude for the successful preliminary feasibility study of the Ulsan-Yangsan-Busan metropolitan railway project and requested its smooth implementation. This major national project will connect 11 stations over 47.6 kilometers from Ulsan Station to Nopo Station in Busan, with a total project cost of 2.5475 trillion won.
Governor Lee emphasized, "The southern region of Ulju is expanding in terms of industry, tourism, and urban development, so the KTX-Eum stop at Namchang Station is not a choice but a necessity." He added, "With the opening of the metropolitan railway, the KTX-Eum stop at Namchang Station will make Ulju County a central hub in the era of railway transportation."
