Goheung County Launches Massive 57.7 Billion Won Water Supply Project
Supplying Clean Tap Water
Goheung County in South Jeolla Province announced that it will launch a massive water supply project worth 57.7 billion won to resolve residents’ concerns about water once and for all.
Goheung County plans to implement new water supply projects in 2026, including the reconstruction of the Bongrae Yenae Water Purification Plant (33.9 billion won), the establishment of an emergency local water supply network in Dohwa Bongryongsadeok District (10.9 billion won), the establishment of an emergency local water supply network in Namyang Mangdong District (6.2 billion won), and the second phase of the emergency local water supply network in Pungyang District (6.7 billion won), totaling 57.7 billion won for new water supply projects.
The 'Yenae Water Purification Plant Reconstruction Project' involves building a state-of-the-art water treatment facility in the Narodo area with a daily capacity of 4,000 tons. Upon completion, 3,198 residents of Bongrae-myeon and Dongil-myeon are expected to receive clean and stable tap water.
Additionally, through these new water supply projects scheduled for 2026, a total of 1,097 residents in 14 villages across three townships-five villages in Godang, Bongdong, Bongseo, Hwangsan, and Cheongryong in Dohwa-myeon; four villages in Seonjeong, Deokheung, Wangju, and Juam in Namyang-myeon; and seven villages in Samsin, Sadong, Sinpyeong, Chukdu, Munam, Sogok, and Dongjeok in Pungyang-myeon-will benefit from safe and clean tap water.
Separately from these new projects, Goheung County is also gradually implementing a total of 154.6 billion won worth of projects, including the renovation of aging county-wide water supply pipelines (22.5 billion won), the renovation of the Gangdong Water Purification Plant (38.2 billion won), the establishment of an emergency local water supply network (9.5 billion won), the rural water supply development project (seven districts, 54 villages, 61.7 billion won), and the development of drinking water sources in island regions (22.7 billion won).
County Governor Gong Youngmin stated, "The water supply project is a representative public service that residents can truly feel in their daily lives," adding, "Over the past three years of the 8th popularly elected administration, we have done our utmost to resolve the inconvenience experienced by residents struggling with drinking water issues."

He further emphasized, "Starting next year, we will make every effort to ensure the stable supply of clean tap water and secure sufficient budgets through these unprecedented large-scale new water supply projects, so that residents can use water with peace of mind."
