It aims to address the crisis of local extinction and support the settlement of retirees and young people in the region by creating an integrated residential complex that combines housing, cultural, welfare, and job opportunities.
Cheongdo County was selected as one of seven cities and counties nationwide in 2023, and it was the first to be chosen in North Gyeongsang Province.
A total of 40.9 billion won (11.5 billion won from the national government, 11 billion won from the Local Extinction Response Fund, 10.9 billion won from the county budget, and 7.5 billion won from the private sector, specifically Gyeongbuk Development Corporation) will be invested in this project.
The project includes 50 housing units for young people and returning farmers, a start-up and employment support center, a child-friendly national sports center offering physical activity and creativity enhancement programs, a youth leap residence to support young residents, and a nature-friendly waterfront park.
Upon completion, the project is expected to greatly improve living conditions as a rural lifestyle hub by integrating cultural, sports, and welfare functions in connection with the nearby national sports center, outdoor performance hall, and women and youth center. It is also anticipated to become a new landmark for Cheongdo.
In his remarks, Governor Kim Hasu stated, "This Regional Vitality Town (Cheongryeodowon) Development Project marks the first step toward overcoming the crisis of local extinction and opening the future of Cheongdo as a city where everyone wants to live. We will secure more financial resources to establish a solid foundation, make large-scale investments to firmly set the axis for the region’s future growth, and enhance resident satisfaction with policies closely connected to daily life."
