A tragic incident occurred in the Spanish Canary Islands, located in the North Atlantic off the northwest coast of Africa, when a massive 'monster wave' struck the beach, sweeping away tourists who were out for a walk, resulting in deaths and injuries.
According to foreign media outlets such as Reuters and DPA on November 9, a large wave hit the northern beach of Tenerife, the largest island in the Canary Islands, which is famous as a resort destination, on November 8. As a result, tourists and other people walking along the beach were swept into the sea within moments, leading to multiple casualties.
The local newspaper Diario de Avisos reported that on this day, when the waves were rough, a large wave suddenly struck the beach, sweeping a group of 10 people, including a Dutch female tourist, into the sea.
Nearby residents and tourists who witnessed the incident joined forces with a rescue helicopter to carry out rescue operations. However, the Dutch woman ultimately died of cardiac arrest, and three others were seriously injured and transported to the hospital.
Local rescue authorities stated, "Separate from this incident, four accidents caused by waves striking various beaches of Tenerife on the same day-including one where a man's body was found floating in the water at El Cabezo beach in the south of the island-resulted in a total of three deaths and 15 injuries."
