Woman in Her 20s Fined for Telling 70s Female Parking Attendant, "My Dog Is Worth More Than You"
A woman in her twenties was fined for making insulting remarks to a parking attendant, telling her, "My dog is worth more than you," after being asked to turn off her car engine.
On November 5, Judge Kim Seouk of the Changwon District Court's Criminal Division 1 announced that a woman in her twenties, referred to as A, had been fined 1.5 million won for insult.
Last July, A was indicted for insulting a female parking attendant in her seventies, referred to as B, at an underground parking lot in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province. A told B, "If my dog dies, will you compensate me? My dog is worth more than you."
At the time, A was sitting in her car with the engine running when B asked her to turn it off. A made these remarks in front of other parking attendants and customers.
Angered by the comments, B grabbed A's wrist and assaulted her. When A and her boyfriend, a man in his twenties referred to as C, tried to leave in the car, B blocked their way and repeatedly grabbed C's clothes.
C also grabbed B's wrist and pushed her upper body, assaulting B in the process.
The court stated, "A compared a person to a pet dog and severely insulted her by assigning a price to human dignity. Rather than reflecting on her wrongdoing, she prioritized blaming the other party, raising doubts about her genuine remorse."
