Inje County Accelerates Establishment of Rural Space Restructuring and Regeneration Plan, Aiming for Final Approval Next Year
Inje County Accelerates "Rural Space Restructuring and Regeneration Plan"
Preliminary Rural Space Policy Review Meeting Scheduled for November 6
Promoting Sustainable Rural Spatial Reorganization
Inje County in Gangwon Province is accelerating the establishment of its "Rural Space Restructuring and Regeneration Plan" to prevent haphazard development in rural areas and improve living conditions.
To formulate the plan, the county officially began the process by holding an inaugural briefing on the basic and implementation plans in July. In August, an administrative council was launched, comprising 33 teams from 13 departments, to establish an interdepartmental collaboration system. The first administrative council meeting was held to discuss key issues and the direction of the initiative. Additionally, to enhance expertise and on-site applicability, the Inje Revitalization Project Group was designated as the basic support institution for rural space.
At 2:00 p.m. on November 6, a preliminary rural space policy review meeting will be held in the main conference room of the Inje County Office to deliberate on the draft basic plan. The meeting will be attended by 23 participants, including key department heads, Inje County council members, resident representatives, and experts. They will discuss the direction for designating "rural specialized districts" with clearly defined functional uses and selecting candidate sites, as well as strategies for designating "rural regeneration revitalization areas" to maximize the impact of rural regeneration efforts.
The county plans to incorporate feedback from this review meeting to prepare project plans for each township and town, and after a public hearing, aims to finalize and approve the basic and implementation plans in early 2026. In particular, the county is considering ways to concentrate resources on region-centered projects by linking the rural space plan with the Wontong 2 District (Galgol), which has been designated as a rural vitality promotion district.
The "Rural Space Restructuring and Regeneration Basic Plan" is a national long-term plan under the "Act on the Restructuring and Regeneration Support of Rural Space." It is a system designed to restore the residential, work, and leisure functions of rural areas and to promote systematic spatial reorganization. Local governments that establish such plans can receive integrated budget support from the government through rural agreements. Starting in 2027, only local governments with an established basic plan will be eligible for national funding.
