North Korea Fires Over 10 Multiple Rocket Launchers Ahead of South Korea-U.S. Defense Ministers' JSA Visit
More Than 10 Rockets Fired During South Korea-China Summit
It has been reported that North Korea fired several multiple rocket launchers at the time of the South Korea-China summit and the visit by the South Korean and U.S. defense ministers to the Joint Security Area (JSA) in Panmunjom.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on November 4 that "our military detected several multiple rocket launchers fired toward the northern part of the West Sea of North Korea at around 3 p.m. on the 1st and at around 4 p.m. on the 3rd." The times when North Korea launched the multiple rocket launchers were approximately 30 minutes before the start of the South Korea-China summit and the visit by the South Korean and U.S. defense ministers to the JSA.
The multiple rocket launchers fired by North Korea are not ballistic missiles, which are banned by the United Nations Security Council. However, there is a possibility that North Korea conducted a show of force to coincide with the strengthening of South Korea-U.S. cooperation and the resumption of dialogue between South Korea and China.
