Gyeryong City Emerges as a Hub for Independence Movement Education and Research
Gyeryong City in South Chungcheong Province has produced its first registered cultural heritage in the province. The "Handwritten Resume and Diary Notebook" of independence activist Han Hoon (Han Hoon, 1889-1950) has been registered as a provincial cultural heritage, which is being recognized as a symbolic achievement that highlights Gyeryong's history and spirit of the independence movement.
According to Gyeryong City on November 3, the "Han Hoon Handwritten Resume" is a document personally written by Han Hoon immediately after Korea’s liberation in 1945, as he rebuilt the Daehan Gwangbokdan. The document details his life and career in the independence movement. It is highly valued academically for reflecting his unwavering commitment to national independence and the spirit of the Korean people, which continued even after liberation.
Additionally, the "Diary Notebook" (1949-1950), which was registered together, meticulously records the weather, daily life, and people he interacted with, making it a valuable resource for understanding the activities of independence activists and the social atmosphere of the time.
Currently, these artifacts are preserved and displayed at the Han Hoon Memorial Hall in Gyeryong City, and are also used as educational materials on the independence movement for students and citizens.
Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, "This registration will serve as an opportunity to shed new light on Han Hoon’s spirit of independence and to advance Gyeryong City as a place that carries on the legacy of the independence movement," adding, "We will actively promote the preservation of this heritage and the development of research and content centered around the Han Hoon Memorial Hall."
