UNIST Explores Future AI Strategies with Global Scholars... "Technology Workshop" Concludes Successfully
Lectures by Experts from UIUC, LG, and NC Draw Over 400 Attendees
Discussions on Industrial Transformation
Sharing Global Technology Trends
Research Achievements Presented and Ongoing Academia-Industry Collaboration
The UNIST (President Park Jongrae) Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence held the "2025 Artificial Intelligence Technology Showcase Workshop" on October 31 at Engineering Building 106.
The event brought together more than 400 AI experts from industry and academia, including distinguished scholars from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, researchers from LG AI Research, and the head of NC AI.
This workshop was organized to share the latest trends in rapidly evolving AI technology and to highlight UNIST's research achievements in 2025. Various sessions, including lectures, paper presentations, and student research exhibitions, facilitated active exchanges between academia and industry.
In his welcoming remarks, Dean Shim Jaeyoung of the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence emphasized, "At a time when AI is reshaping the entire industrial landscape, this event provides an opportunity for researchers from both academia and industry to explore future directions together."
For the keynote lectures, Professor Kim Joohyung of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) introduced the "Resurgence of Teleoperation Technology" in robotics and physical AI environments.
Next, Kim Seunghwan, Head of the Applied AI Research Group at LG AI Research, presented on "The Age of Agentic AI: A Better World Created by LG AI," while Lee Yeonsoo, CEO of NC AI, spoke on "Opening a New Era of Creation: The Multimodal AI Revolution."
Participants discussed the changes that the evolution of AI technology will bring to humanity and industry as a whole. Lively exchanges took place around specific questions such as, "How will collaboration between AI and humans change in the future?" and "What impact will new AI technologies have on the industrial ecosystem and job structures?"
Following this, UNIST professors Joo Kyungdon, Yoo Jaejoon, Yoon Sunghwan, Baek Seungryul, and Lee Seulgi from the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence presented outstanding research achievements published in top international journals.
They showcased innovative modeling techniques that simultaneously enhance AI expressiveness and computational efficiency in key areas such as 3D scene understanding, video super-resolution, reinforcement learning, vision-based human-object interaction reconstruction, and Bayesian (probabilistic model) code optimization.
By advancing the understanding of physical environments and proposing optimization strategies for automated deep learning systems, they demonstrated the broad application potential of next-generation AI technologies.
Now in its fifth year, this workshop has been driving the regional innovation AI ecosystem since its inaugural event in 2021.
Dean Shim stated, "The UNIST AI Workshop has established itself as a leading academic event, serving as a catalyst for AI innovation through collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutes."
