"Gyeongin Line Electric Railway Power Equipment Upgrade Project Begins Ahead of KTX Launch from Incheon"
The GTX Headquarters of the Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 31st that it will promote the "Gyeongin Line Electric Railway Power Equipment Improvement Project" to secure power supply capacity before the opening of the KTX from Incheon and to upgrade aged substation equipment.
Electric railway substations are core facilities that convert extra-high voltage power supplied by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to a voltage suitable for train operation (AC 25kV).

In response, the GTX Headquarters plans to invest a total of 68 billion won over four years and six months, from June of this year until November 2029, to complete upgrades at five locations, including Juan Electric Railway Substation and Bugae Sectioning Post, in order to ensure a stable power supply.
The Gyeongin Line Electric Railway Power Equipment Improvement Project aims to replace major substation equipment such as transformers and switchgear that have been in operation for 27 years, secure power supply capacity for the KTX from Incheon, and eliminate potential risk factors in advance to prevent equipment accidents.
