BASF Doubles Amine Production in Nanjing, China... Expands Key Raw Materials for Detergents and Epoxy
100% Renewable Energy Transition Reduces Carbon Emissions
"Strengthening Customer Trust in the Asian Market"
Global chemical company BASF has significantly expanded its production capacity for 3-Dimethylaminopropylamine (DMAPA) and Polyetheramine (PEA), which are key raw materials for surfactants and epoxy materials, at its Nanjing plant in China. With this expansion, DMAPA production has doubled, and PEA output has increased by approximately 25%.
BASF recently announced on the 30th that it held an event at its Nanjing plant to celebrate the completion of the expansion and the 10th anniversary of its operation. The newly expanded facilities began commercial operations in July. Michael Becker, Senior Vice President of the Intermediates Asia Pacific business unit, stated, "This investment will enhance our ability to provide a stable supply and high-quality products, thereby strengthening customer trust in the Asian market."

As a result, the company has reduced annual carbon dioxide emissions by about 9,800 tons. The average product carbon footprint (PCF) has been reduced by approximately 4%. Customers can achieve 'Scope 3 (supply chain)' emission reduction effects without any additional measures. Vice President Joachim Schmid-Leithoff said, "This transition has strengthened the competitiveness of both BASF and our customers," adding, "We aim to establish ourselves as a trusted partner in the sustainable intermediates sector."
DMAPA is a key raw material for betaine surfactants used in shampoos and dishwashing detergents, and it is also widely used in water treatment agents, lubricant additives, pesticides, polyurethane foams, and epoxy resin hardeners. With this expansion, BASF's global DMAPA production capacity has increased to approximately 85,000 tons per year.
