Wonju City Selected for Rural Development Administration's 'Agricultural Product Safety Analysis Laboratory Establishment' Project, Secures 1 Billion KRW in Funding
Wonju City, Gangwon Province, has been selected for the '2026 Agricultural Product Safety Analysis Laboratory Establishment Project,' organized by the Rural Development Administration, and has secured a project budget of 1 billion KRW (approximately 10 billion KRW).
This project aims to support safe pesticide use and hazardous substance management technologies, as well as to promote the activation of the local food plan. Through this initiative, facilities will be established to analyze the safety of agricultural products during the production stage and of local food agricultural products.
Wonju City was selected alongside Imsil County in North Jeolla Province and Boseong County in South Jeolla Province through a document review process. It is the only city or county in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province to be named among the final selections.
The city plans to use the secured project budget to introduce equipment capable of analyzing harmful substances in the agricultural sector, such as pesticide residues (463 types), in local agricultural products and to improve laboratory environments by 2027.

Lee Sangbun, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "Through this project, we will do our utmost to strengthen the foundation for quality management to enhance the safety and reliability of food produced and consumed locally, such as local food and school meals."
