View original imageThe story of Jeong Hoigeun (26), an employee at the Damyang County Agricultural Technology Center in South Jeolla Province, who donated hematopoietic stem cells to a blood cancer patient in the first half of this year, has recently come to light, bringing warm inspiration to the local community.
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is the only treatment that offers a cure for blood cancer patients. However, finding a donor with a matching genotype is extremely difficult, so it is very rare for those registered as potential donors in Korea to actually proceed with a donation.
Since 2016, Jeong has donated blood a total of 39 times, consistently practicing the act of sharing life. This recent stem cell donation is an extension of his long-standing commitment to giving, motivated by his belief that "if I can save someone's life, I will not hesitate."
On the 29th, Jeong said, "Before the donation, I had vague fears about recovery and potential aftereffects, but after thorough explanations and pre-examinations by the medical staff, I learned that I could return to my daily routine after a certain recovery period. That gave me the courage to go ahead." After the donation, Jeong made a full recovery and has resumed his usual work.
