Superintendent Lim Taehee Welcomes Passage of National Assembly Bill Delegating Authority Over Education Support Office Separation to Ordinances
Lim Taehee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, expressed his welcome regarding the passage of the partial amendment to the Local Education Autonomy Act by the National Assembly on October 26, which delegates the authority to establish, abolish, merge, and separate local education support offices to ordinances.
On October 27, Superintendent Lim released a statement saying, "With the passage of the amendment to the Local Education Autonomy Act at the National Assembly plenary session, it has become possible to establish new, separate education support offices, fulfilling a long-standing wish of the Gyeonggi education community. I would like to thank all the lawmakers and relevant authorities who worked hard for the amendment of this bill."
He continued, "The separation and establishment of integrated education support offices is one of my key pledges to provide fair educational administrative services tailored to the characteristics of each region for all students. The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will promptly prepare follow-up procedures, including the enactment of necessary ordinances, following the revision of the law."
Currently, there are six integrated education support offices in the province, each overseeing two cities: Gwangju-Hanam, Guri-Namyangju, Gunpo-Uiwang, Dongducheon-Yangju, Anyang-Gwacheon, and Hwaseong-Osan.

Most of these six integrated education support offices are experiencing a rapid increase in population and student numbers due to the development of new towns, leading to a surge in civil petitions from residents requesting the separation of these offices. Accordingly, the provincial office of education is formulating a basic plan to separate and newly establish education support offices to ensure one office per city or county.
