Yangsan City Completes Future Vehicle Innovation Hub ‘Battery Industry Support Center’
A Central Role Expected for the Battery Industry Ecosystem
Leading the Era of Future Mobility
Yangsan City, Gyeongnam Province, will hold a completion ceremony on November 12 at the Future Vehicle Battery Industry Support Center, located in Gasanni, within the Gasani General Industrial Complex in Dong-myeon, officially establishing a hub for technological support in the future vehicle battery industry.
This project, titled "E-Mobility Industry Ecosystem Revitalization Project through Reused Battery Application," was selected for the 2023 Smart Specialization Infrastructure Development Project by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. It is being carried out by Gyeongnam Technopark, with participation from Gyeongnam Province, Yangsan City, and Busan City as a large-scale regional cooperation initiative.
A total project budget of 29.9 billion KRW has been allocated, with Yangsan City contributing 16.9 billion KRW (including land costs), the national government providing 8.6 billion KRW, Gyeongnam Province allocating 2.6 billion KRW, and Busan City contributing 1.8 billion KRW.
The completion ceremony will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Gyeongnam Province, Yangsan City, and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, with Gyeongnam Technopark as the main organizer. Around 100 participants, including local business leaders and research institute representatives, are expected to attend.
The Future Vehicle Battery Industry Support Center began construction in October 2024 and is scheduled for completion at the end of October 2025. The site covers 3,953.0 square meters, with a total floor area of 1,606.78 square meters, and consists of a test building and a two-story research building.
The center will house the Gyeongnam Technopark Future Vehicle Team, with five staff members including the team leader. As a core hub for Yangsan City's future vehicle industry development and technology leadership strategy, the center is equipped to provide key functions for comprehensive industry support, including battery diagnosis and evaluation, demonstration of reuse technologies, and performance evaluation of small-scale mobility devices.
The center is equipped with three types of battery diagnosis and evaluation equipment, performance evaluation devices for small mobility units, and storage facilities capable of accommodating up to 200 batteries. Through these resources, companies involved in electric vehicles and e-mobility can access reliability assessments and performance testing services.
Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, "Through this project, Yangsan City will not only become a center for battery technology innovation and commercialization, but will also successfully establish Yangsan-type models in the eco-friendly future vehicle market, creating significant opportunities for local economic revitalization and job creation. This marks a pivotal turning point for Yangsan to emerge as a sustainable hub for the future vehicle battery industry."
