Korea Airports Corporation Mobilizes Full Support for APEC... Second Departure Hall Established at Gimhae Airport
Temporary CIQ Facility Established at Pohang Gyeongju Airport
Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 22nd that it has established a second departure hall at Gimhae International Airport to support the successful hosting of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
The second departure hall, located in Zone D on the second floor of Gimhae Airport, covers an area of 656 square meters. Starting from the 27th, it will be used exclusively for APEC departures. Additionally, a shuttle bus boarding area and waiting zone have been set up on the first floor of the international terminal for transportation to Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju, enhancing convenience for both domestic and international VIPs and other participants using the airport.
A temporary CIQ (quarantine, immigration, and customs) facility has been established at Pohang Gyeongju Airport. VIP lounges at Gimhae, Daegu, and Pohang Gyeongju airports have been remodeled to welcome guests.
To prevent safety accidents, the corporation conducted a special inspection of passenger terminals, takeoff and landing facilities, and internal roads at Gimhae, Daegu, and Pohang Gyeongju airports for ten days starting from the 13th, and addressed any deficiencies found. At Gimhae and Pohang Gyeongju airports, equipment such as acoustic devices and thermal imaging cameras has been added to prevent bird strikes, and the number of bird control personnel has been increased.
In addition, during the APEC period, extra aviation security personnel will be deployed at airports nationwide, and unannounced inspections will be conducted to improve on-site staff focus and strengthen aviation security. The corporation is also requesting airlines to cooperate with advance notifications regarding the heightened aviation security level and enhanced security measures at airports nationwide, and is taking steps to manage terminal congestion.
The corporation has designated the period from the 12th to the 26th as a special environmental maintenance week and is carrying out cleaning, painting, and repairs of facilities such as airport terminals, buildings, and roads nationwide. APEC promotional street banners are being installed on internal roads, and welcome zones and information booths are being set up at Gimhae and Pohang Gyeongju airports to create a welcoming atmosphere for APEC.
Meanwhile, the corporation announced that due to the heightened aviation security level at airports nationwide from the 24th to the 1st of next month, security checks including shoe screening will be strengthened, which is expected to increase the time required for boarding procedures. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.
