Gwangju Gonjiam Station Area Phase 2 Development Project Moves Forward... 2,065 Households to Move In
The Gonjiam Station Area Phase 2 Urban Development Project is set to move forward in earnest.
On October 22, Gyeonggi Province announced that, at the request of Gwangju City, it had designated the district and established a development plan for the Gonjiam Station Area (Phase 2) Urban Development Project.
The Gonjiam Station Area (Phase 2) Urban Development Project is an eco-friendly, self-sustaining residential environment initiative centered around Gonjiam Station on the Gyeonggang Line. The project aims to organically connect plazas, neighborhood parks, parking lots, and self-sufficient facilities, and to harmoniously arrange apartment complexes to accommodate 2,065 households and 4,956 residents.
The Gonjiam Station Area (Phase 2) Urban Development Project has improved residential conditions by planning sites for a middle school and neighborhood parks to expand educational and park infrastructure, which were lacking in the Phase 1 project.
Gyeonggi Province expects that this project will help Gonjiam-eup grow into a major secondary urban center within Gwangju City.

Kim Heesung, Director of Urban Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The Gonjiam Station Area (Phase 2) Urban Development Project is a key initiative that will maximize the potential of Gwangju City's station area and drive regional development. In particular, it is expected to serve as a catalyst for developing areas where overlapping regulations have made development difficult."
