A Chronicle of Youth Woven in Light... Sangmyung University Textile Design Graduation Exhibition
Nineteen Graduating Students Present Over 100 Works Under the Theme “Our Time Becomes Light”
Expanding the Boundaries of Textiles Where Art and Industry Meet
The Textile Design major at Sangmyung University’s College of Design has woven four years of time into “light.”
On October 21, Sangmyung University announced that until October 23, the 35th graduation exhibition titled “Our Time Becomes Light” will be held at the Sangmyung Gallery in the university’s Design Hall. Nineteen graduating students will present over 100 textile works, each reflecting their own artistic journey.
This exhibition centers on the process by which each student’s accumulated time and effort are manifested as “light” in the form of their works. The students have expressed their woven journeys of emotions and experiences through textiles, showcasing a wide range of attempts that cross the boundaries between artistry and practicality.
The exhibition features works spanning the entire field of textile design, including weaving, dyeing, printing, embroidery, knitting, and jacquard.
Going beyond the expansion of traditional techniques, the exhibition presents the possibilities of new fabric art by blending contemporary sensibilities with advanced technology.
In particular, students will present textile-based products and objects that they have planned and produced themselves, offering them in a pop-up store format. This allows visitors to experience the versatility and expansiveness of textiles firsthand.
Choi Seryeong, Chair of the Graduation Exhibition Preparatory Committee (senior, Textile Design major), stated, “Textiles are the skin of daily life and a medium that holds cultural memories. This exhibition covers a broad spectrum, from practical design to installation art, based on the exploration of material properties. It will showcase the identity of Sangmyung University’s textile design, where artistry and industrial value intersect.”
The Textile Design major at Sangmyung University offers a practical curriculum that includes brand strategy, design planning, and spatial production. The program fosters creative problem-solving skills and emotional design capabilities to nurture talent equipped for the evolving industrial environment.
