Discussion on Nine Key Issues Including Military Airport Relocation and KTX Expansion
The Democratic Party's Honam Development Special Committee held a meeting on regional issues with the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the 20th. The meeting was attended by Lee Byunghoon, Senior Vice Chairman, Han Sangwon, Chairman of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, committee members, and representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

View original imageThis meeting was organized to directly hear the voices of local businesses and to seek concrete measures for economic revitalization. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry proposed nine key issues: converting the relocation of the Gwangju military airport into a national fiscal project; increasing the national funding ratio for the Gwangju AX Demonstration Valley; expanding KTX service on the Honam Line; improving the governance of contributions to the Korea Institute of Energy Technology; the second phase of relocating public institutions to provincial areas; exempting the Gwangju-Daegu Dalbit Railway from preliminary feasibility studies; attracting a branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art to Gwangju; attracting the National Assembly Gwangju Library; and establishing a Gwangju branch of the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History.
Han Sangwon stated, "Gwangju faces a multitude of pressing issues, including the relocation of the military airport," adding, "In particular, the relocation of the military airport must be pursued as a national fiscal project." He continued, "We will do our best to ensure that the voices of the local business community are reflected in policy."
Lee Byunghoon, Senior Vice Chairman, emphasized, "The major issues facing the Gwangju region can no longer be postponed," and added, "We must achieve tangible progress through government financial support." He also stated, "We will provide structural support to ensure that the voices of businesses and institutions heard on the ground are translated into policy and implementation."
