Yeongwol County in Gangwon Province (Governor Choi Myungseo) held an emergency countermeasure meeting on October 16, chaired by the county governor, in response to the recent controversy over delayed payments for construction equipment rentals. The meeting was attended by the governor, deputy governor, and heads of key departments in charge of contracts and construction. They shared updates on the payment delays and discussed measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
During the meeting, the following measures were discussed: ▲ Thorough verification by on-site supervising officials and the supervisory team regarding guarantees for construction equipment rental payments ▲ Strengthened oversight of the use of local equipment and materials at construction sites ▲ Proactive steps to prevent payment delays when making disbursements ▲ Comprehensive inspections of all departmental construction sites to investigate the actual status of construction equipment rentals and crack down on illegal activities.
The county will continue to facilitate meetings between primary contractors, subcontractors, and equipment suppliers to resolve outstanding payments. Department heads will work together to ensure a prompt resolution. In addition, the county plans to draft and distribute guidelines to prevent delayed payments for construction equipment rentals, aiming to eradicate such issues at all future county-commissioned construction sites.
