LS Chairman Koo Ja-yeol Awarded Honorary Doctorate in Law by Waseda University in Japan
Contributions to Enhancing Korea-Japan Economic Cooperation
and Expanding International Exchange
LS Group announced on October 19, 2025, that LS Group Chairman Koo Ja-yeol has been awarded an honorary doctorate in law by Waseda University in Japan.

View original imageChairman Koo attended the "Honorary Doctorate in Law Conferment Ceremony" held on October 18 at the Aizu Yaichi Memorial Museum of Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. The ceremony was attended by about 70 people, including Kim Dong-won, President of Korea University; Seung Myung-ho, President of the Korea University Alumni Association; Kim Yoon, Chairman of the Korea-Japan Economic Association; officials from the Korea International Trade Association; LS Group executives and employees; and Chairman Koo's family.
Waseda University highly praised Chairman Koo for his significant contributions to enhancing economic cooperation between Korea and Japan, serving as Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association and as a director of the Seoul-Tokyo Forum. His efforts as President of the Korea University Alumni Association and as Chairman of the Development Committee to expand international exchanges between the two universities were also recognized in the evaluation.
Previously, the late Koo Doo-hoe, Honorary Chairman of Yesco; the late Lee Kun-hee, former Chairman of Samsung; and former Korea University President Yeom Jae-ho have all received this honorary degree.

In his acceptance speech, Chairman Koo stated, "Being awarded this honorary doctorate is a meaningful event that symbolizes the trust and exchange between the two universities, and I believe it reflects the expectation that I will become an exemplary leader for both Korea and Japan. I will continue to strive for active exchanges and development between the two countries."
