According to Korea Expressway Corporation, at approximately 11 p.m. on the previous day, a pothole about 1 meter in diameter and 20 centimeters deep appeared in the third lane between the Guri-Namyangju Tollgate and Namyangju Interchange in Donong-dong, Namyangju.
Twenty-three vehicles passing through the section sustained damage such as tire punctures, and two drivers suffered minor injuries, but neither required hospital transport.

Korea Expressway Corporation announced that emergency repairs were completed within about two hours of the incident and that compensation procedures will be carried out for the affected vehicles.
