KOSPI Gains Over 1% Intraday on Joint Institutional and Foreign Buying
The KOSPI is showing strength, buoyed by simultaneous buying from institutional and foreign investors.
As of 10:04 a.m. on October 15, 2025, the KOSPI was trading at 3,603.45, up 1.17% from the previous day.
By investor type, institutions and foreign investors recorded net purchases of 181 billion won and 15.5 billion won, respectively, while individual investors posted net sales of 208.1 billion won. In the futures market, foreign investors made net purchases of 146.2 billion won, whereas institutions and individuals recorded net sales of 47 billion won and 98.4 billion won, respectively.
Most sectors are showing gains. The machinery and equipment sector is up 4.93%, pharmaceuticals 4.21%, construction 3.98%, electric and gas 3.04%, distribution 2.73%, non-metallics 2.15%, telecommunications 1.49%, general services 1.3%, manufacturing 1.12%, securities 1.08%, finance 1.05%, medical precision 0.87%, and transportation equipment 0.85%. On the other hand, the insurance sector is down 1.68%, and the metals sector is also declining.
Among large-cap stocks by market capitalization, more are rising than falling. Samsung Electronics is up 1.58%, Samsung Biologics 7.89%, Doosan Enerbility 6.73%, Hanwha Aerospace 0.43%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 0.5%, KB Financial Group 2.25%, NAVER 0.58%, Celltrion 1.18%, Samsung C&T 5.49%, and Shinhan Financial Group 2.63%. In contrast, SK Hynix is down 0.61%, while LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Motor are trading slightly lower.
The KOSDAQ index is also showing strength at the same time. The KOSDAQ index is trading at 853.63, up 0.69% from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and individuals are net buyers of 15.4 billion won and 65.3 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors are net sellers of 78.9 billion won.
Among large-cap stocks by market capitalization on the KOSDAQ, more are declining than rising. Ecopro BM is down 0.32%, Ecopro -0.99%, Peptron -0.56%, LIG ChemBio -0.75%, HLB -0.92%, ABL Bio -0.22%, Samchundang Pharm -0.79%, Caregen -0.16%, and Hugel -0.19%. On the other hand, Alteogen is up 0.34%, Rainbow Robotics 2.67%, and PharmaResearch 1.31% are also on the rise.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,427.8 won, down 0.8 won from the previous day.
