Korea Forest Service to Provide 51.6 Billion Won in Forestry Direct Payments This Year...Up 1.3 Billion Won from Last Year
The Korea Forest Service announced on October 15 that it will provide 51.6 billion won in direct public payments for forestry and forest management (forestry direct payments) to forestry households and workers this year.
The amount of forestry direct payments to be provided has increased by 1.3 billion won compared to last year. The payments will cover a total of 19,658 cases, with a forest area of 67,000 hectares.
By payment category, forest product production accounts for the largest share, with 17,703 cases (39.1 billion won). Silviculture will receive 1,383 cases (6.9 billion won), and those engaged in both forest product production and silviculture will receive 572 cases (5.6 billion won).
The Korea Forest Service selected payment recipients after verifying eligibility for each application, including checks for deceased applicants, excessive non-farm income, and duplicate land parcels.
In addition, the agency is conducting cross-checks and joint on-site inspections with local governments, operating honorary inspectors, and implementing other preventive measures to stop fraudulent claims in advance.
The Korea Forest Service has completed the transfer of grants to each provincial and metropolitan government to ensure the prompt payment of forestry direct payments. The respective city, county, and district offices will be responsible for verifying applicants' bank accounts and other procedures, and will distribute the payments sequentially by the end of the year.
