During the interim report, the 'Basic Plan (Draft) for Imjingang National Garden,' which integrates the ecology, security, history, and culture of the DMZ, was presented.
Through this, a vision for the Imjingang National Garden was proposed to promote balanced development in northern Paju and to establish the area as a hub for cultural and ecological tourism in the Seoul metropolitan region. Attendees reviewed the proposed plan and offered various opinions to develop the garden as a model that harmonizes nature conservation with the revitalization of local tourism.
The city plans to refine the basic plan based on feedback from the interim report meeting, hold a final report meeting within this year, and systematically proceed with step-by-step procedures such as consultations with central government ministries for the future creation of the Imjingang National Garden.
Mayor Kim Kyung-il stated, "The Imjingang area has long struggled to realize its full potential due to regulatory barriers as a border region. Recently, as the Ministry of National Defense announced plans to reduce the civilian control line, new opportunities are opening up throughout the Imjingang area."
