Discussion on Regional Science and Technology Policy Directions and Issues at the 2nd S&T Town Hall Meeting
The Busan Institute of Science and Technology for Higher Education Promotion (BISTEP), led by President Kim Youngbu, held the "2nd Busan City Council-BISTEP S&T (Science & Technology) Town Hall Meeting" at 10:00 a.m. on October 13 in the conference room of the Busan City Council Members' Hall.
This town hall meeting was organized to explore strategies for locally driven innovation in science and technology policy and to build consensus on the direction of Busan's science and technology policy planning and research.
During the event, BISTEP's Policy Research Division introduced 10 ongoing science and technology policy planning and strategic research projects for this year. The subsequent discussion focused on actively exploring practical measures to reflect BISTEP's research outcomes in actual policy.
Seong Changyong, Chair of the Busan City Council's Planning and Finance Committee, emphasized, "Research on current issues must be pursued as effective projects that fully consider their connection to industrial conditions." Assemblyman Ban Sunho added, "Institutional linkages and practical implementation must be strengthened so that BISTEP's research results can be effectively reflected in municipal administration."
Assemblyman Lee Seungwoo remarked, "BISTEP should take the lead in setting the direction for emerging industries such as biohealth and age-tech." Assemblyman Park Jungmook expressed hope that "BISTEP will take a proactive role in researching science and technology issues," while Committee Member Kim Hyungcheol suggested, "Collaboration with local universities and companies should be strengthened to expand the research support base at both the national and local levels."
