Samjong KPMG Appoints Former ISSB Member Paek Taeyoung as Advisory Committee Member

Samjong KPMG announced on the 14th that it has appointed Paek Taeyoung, former member of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), as an advisory committee member. His term began on the 1st and will last for three years.

View original imageAdvisory Committee Member Paek earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Seoul National University and received his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley. Since 1989, he has served as an assistant professor at the Stern School of Business at New York University, where he conducted research and taught in the field of accounting. From 1995 to 2023, he was a professor at the School of Business at Sungkyunkwan University, contributing to the academic community by publishing papers in leading domestic and international journals.
He also served as the 39th president of the Korean Accounting Association, leading the advancement of accounting research and systems in Korea, and worked to foster accounting and finance professionals through industry-academia cooperation.
Notably, Paek was appointed as an inaugural member of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) in 2022 and participated directly in the development of international ESG disclosure frameworks and sustainability reporting standards until September of this year. Through this work, he collaborated with stakeholders in global markets, including Korea, and played a leading role in enhancing the reliability and consistency of the international sustainability disclosure system. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor to the ISSB, continuing to provide guidance on the establishment and implementation of global standards.
As an advisory committee member at Samjong KPMG, Paek will play a key role based on his expertise and experience, including providing strategic and policy advice on ESG and sustainability, supporting the interpretation and practical application of international and domestic sustainability disclosure standards (ISSB/KSSB), advising on the advancement of ESG consulting projects, and analyzing global ESG trends and proposing response strategies.
