Gwangju Transportation Corporation Resumes Operation of Escalators at Sangmu Station
Two Months of Replacement Work Due to Flood Damage
Gwangju Transportation Corporation announced on the 13th that it has completed the replacement of four escalators inside Sangmu Station, which had suspended operations due to flooding caused by record heavy rainfall on July 17, and has resumed their operation.
On the day of the heavy rain, when parts of Sangmu Station were submerged, the corporation quickly implemented partial subway operations and mobilized all employees for restoration work. In addition, they conducted proactive facility inspections and succeeded in fully normalizing operations across all sections just one day after the incident.
However, in the case of the escalators, a professional inspection determined that comprehensive repairs to major components were unavoidable. As a result, after consulting with Gwangju City, the corporation has been carrying out replacement work over the past two months.
