Jeongseon County: "Wawagoon Gives Back for Local Spending Receipt Verification"
Celebrating the 2025-2026 Year of Visiting Gangwon
Special Events in Jeongseon, October's Top Travel Destination
Jeongseon County in Gangwon Province announced on October 9 that, in celebration of the "2025-2026 Year of Visiting Gangwon," it will be holding both the "Wawagoon Gives Back" event, which encourages visitors to verify their local spending receipts, and a special discount promotion at tourist attractions. These initiatives aim to provide a variety of enjoyable experiences for tourists visiting Jeongseon, the top recommended travel destination for October. "Wawagoon" is the name of Jeongseon County’s representative tourism character.
This event will be held at Jeongseon County’s tourist information centers for 20 days, from October 12 to 31, targeting visitors to Jeongseon. To participate, visitors must present a same-day receipt showing a minimum purchase of 30,000 won per transaction at local tourist attractions, accommodations, restaurants, cafes, or shops within Jeongseon. Every day, the first 108 participants-up to a total of 2,160 people-will receive a chance to win a prize with no blanks in the draw. Prizes include a set of mixed grains, a Wawagoon cushion, red pepper powder, and merchandise featuring Wawagoon and friends, all of which are local specialties and character goods from Jeongseon.
Additionally, throughout October, travelers who visit major tourist attractions in Jeongseon County can enjoy special discounts, such as: discounted local resident rates at Hwaam Cave, Bugs Land, and the Gariwangsan Cable Car upon verifying local spending receipts; a 2,000 won discount on admission to Romyzian Garden; and a complimentary Wawagoon shopping bag when using the Jeongseon City Tour.
For tourist attraction discounts, visitors who present a receipt showing at least 10,000 won spent per person within Jeongseon will be eligible for the discount benefits, which are expected to boost both the local economy and visitor satisfaction.
A Jeongseon County official stated, "Jeongseon in October is the perfect travel destination for autumn foliage, with beautiful mountains such as Mindungsan, Gariwangsan, and Hambaeksan," adding, "We hope visitors enjoy a special autumn trip by taking advantage of the Wawagoon Gives Back event and various tourist attraction discounts."
