"Thank You" ... Changwon Fire Headquarters Receives Certificate of Appreciation from U.S. Navy Support Unit
Certificate of Appreciation Awarded to Paramedics
Who Assisted with Childbirth at U.S. Military Base in June
Changwon Fire Headquarters in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, announced on October 6 that paramedics who assisted with a childbirth at a U.S. military base last June received a certificate of appreciation from the U.S. Navy Jinhae Fleet Fire Department.
This award ceremony was organized by the U.S. Navy Jinhae Fleet to express gratitude to the paramedics who ensured a safe delivery.
The recipients of the certificate of appreciation were Fire Sergeant Lee Min, Firefighters Heo Jaewon and Kang Donggu from the Daheung 119 Safety Center, and Firefighters Lee Beomgyun and Kim Gyuhou from the Pung-ho 119 Safety Center.
On June 6 at 6:01 a.m., they responded to a report that a woman was about to give birth in a residence at the U.S. military base and successfully assisted with a safe delivery in the ambulance.
Despite the urgency of the situation, the paramedics remained calm, maintained the body temperature of both the newborn and the mother, and transported them to Changwon Gyeongsang National University Hospital.
Gilbert Chavez, Chief of the U.S. Navy Support Unit Fire Department, stated, "I sincerely thank the Korean paramedics who ensured a safe delivery," adding, "I will never forget the dedication of Korean firefighters, even when I return to the United States."
