Crown Haitai Confectionery to Host 20th Changsin Festival Next Month
Sujecheon, a Korean Traditional Music Masterpiece Presented for Four Consecutive Years
Top Master Musicians and Crown Haitai Employees Take the Stage Together
Crown Haitai Confectionery announced on September 30 that it will host the 20th Changsin Festival from October 17 to 19, starting at 5 p.m. each day at the Grand Theater of the Seoul Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. The Changsin Festival, which began in 2004 under the theme of “Creating innovation based on tradition” (Beopgochangsin), is a traditional music performance organized by a private company.
This year marks the 20th edition of the Changsin Festival, and the theme of the performance is “Sujecheon,” which has been featured for the past four years. Originating from the Baekje-era song “Jeongeupsa” 1,500 years ago and later developed into court music, Sujecheon is celebrated as a pinnacle of Korean traditional music. This year’s stage further advances the effort to preserve the original form of Sujecheon while reinterpreting it with a modern sensibility, aiming to create a new future for Korean traditional music.
The performance will open with a 100-member chorus of Crown Haitai executives and employees, accompanied by a Korean traditional orchestra composed of strings, winds, and percussion, performing Sujecheon in four-part harmony. The Crown Haitai Samulnori troupe will add excitement to the festival with the “Dongnak (Street Gut)” performance, while both traditional and contemporary dance pieces such as “Gulchulsincheo” and “Chumsawi Sujecheon” will provide a multidimensional experience. The Crown Haitai Ilmu team will deepen the performance with the Jongmyo Jeryeak piece “Jeonpaehuimun,” followed by “Jeonggaguum,” a vocal performance divided into male and female parts. The festival will conclude with the Yangjupungnyu Ensemble, composed of master musicians, performing the original version of Sujecheon that preserves its traditional form.
In addition, gifted young musicians from Haneum will also take the stage at the 20th Changsin Festival. On October 19 at 1 p.m., the “Haneum Young Talents Changsin Festival Special Performance” will be held at the same venue.
