The province will provide full support, including budget allocation and the discovery of related projects.
The 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Provincial Support Task Force held its kickoff meeting on the 3rd and, through three meetings, 18 departments identified 16 related projects with a total budget of 93.5 billion won.
Next year, the province plans to discover and support an additional 31 projects with a budget of 9.5 billion won. In addition, before and after the expo, Jeollanam-do and private organizations will hold various events concentrated in Yeosu to actively support the success of the expo.
Jeollanam-do will invest a total of 161.1 billion won in the expo, including 24.8 billion won for basic projects, 42.8 billion won for expanded projects, and related projects.
The basic project budget, confirmed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance upon approval as an international event, will be used for the construction and operation of the expo venue, promotional marketing, and operation of the organizing committee.
The expanded project budget is an additional allocation from the provincial and municipal governments for post-expo venue utilization, content development, and promotional marketing. It will be used for creating landmarks, island-themed zones, outdoor performance venues, entrance gates, content development, and promotional marketing.
The related project budget is independently supported by Jeollanam-do and Yeosu City in connection with the expo. Related projects include expanding the main venue access road, building the Gaedo Island Fishing Village Culture Center, hosting the 7th Island Day event, and developing urban forests and outdoor gardens, totaling 16 projects.
For the successful hosting of the expo, creating a province-wide and nationwide buzz and attracting visitors are key.
Accordingly, Jeollanam-do plans to have all departments actively identify and host various events in Yeosu, including provincial-level and private organization events scheduled for 2026.
In particular, to create momentum before the expo, Jeollanam-do will designate 2026 as the Year of Visiting Jeonnam Islands and plans to raise excitement for the expo through the 7th Island Day commemorative event and the Yeosu Music Festival, both scheduled for August 2026.
During the expo, major events promoted by Jeollanam-do will be concentrated in Yeosu, including the 2026 Month of Culture event, the Namdo K-Garden Festival, the 3rd Gimbap Festival, the 2026 Salt Expo, the Namdo Liquor Festival, and the International Island Work Camp, to maintain the excitement of the expo.
