Wonju Revives Citizens Sports Festival After 24 Years... Residents from 25 Districts to Compete Together
To Be Held at Wonju Sports Complex on November 1
The Wonju Citizens Sports Festival, which had been suspended since 2001, will be held again after 24 years.
The 2025 Wonju Citizens Sports Festival has been organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Wonju's elevation to city status, to promote communication and unity among citizens, and to strengthen community cohesion. The event will be hosted and organized by the Wonju Sports Council and is scheduled to take place at Wonju Sports Complex on November 1.
This year's festival will be held as a competition among 25 towns, townships, and neighborhoods, featuring a total of seven events: mixed relay, five-legged race, park golf putting, group jump rope, tug-of-war, hula hoop, and women's penalty kick. The competitions will be divided into two divisions based on the population and aging ratio of each area, and the festival is designed as a grand celebration where all citizens can participate and enjoy together.
The event will begin with a pre-ceremony performance at 8:30 a.m., followed by the athletes' parade and opening ceremony at 9:00 a.m. Sports competitions for each event will take place throughout the day, and in the afternoon, the festival will conclude with performances by guest singers, a citizens' representative performance, an awards ceremony, and a prize drawing.
All Wonju citizens are eligible to participate, and those wishing to join can apply at their local administrative welfare center-either at their place of residence or workplace-by October 13.
