Postal Financial Services Fully Restored, Operations Back to Normal
Postal financial services, which had been suspended due to a fire at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS), have resumed.
The Korea Post under the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that postal financial services returned to normal operation as of 9:00 p.m. on September 28.
The disruption to postal financial services occurred on the afternoon of September 26 due to the fire at the NIRS. After the fire was extinguished, the government conducted inspections of the network equipment at the NIRS facility and carried out work to restart administrative information systems, including the postal service servers.
To restore postal services, Korea Post conducted system inspections on September 27 and 28. After confirming that there were no issues, they immediately decided to resume postal financial services.
With the resumption of services, all functions-including check card usage, online fund transfers, cash deposits and withdrawals at ATMs, insurance subscriptions, and insurance claims-are now available.
However, postal services are still undergoing inspections and are scheduled to resume on September 29.
Since the service suspension, Korea Post has closely communicated with the government, established a disaster response situation room, and mobilized all available resources to minimize customer inconvenience.
After system normalization, they also plan to assess any customer damages.
