Amendment of Germany's Skilled Immigration Act Lowers Barriers for Hiring Foreign Talent
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Consulate General in Frankfurt jointly held the "2025 Korea-Germany Job Fair" in Frankfurt. The event was organized to support young Koreans seeking employment in Europe and to help local companies secure talent.
According to KOTRA on the 29th, the fair, which took place on the 26th, featured 17 companies including CJ Food Europe, Korea Development Bank, and Lotte Chemical Germany, conducting interviews with around 150 young Korean job seekers. To facilitate hiring, the event also provided company mentor consultations, one-on-one legal advice, and resume writing clinics.
Germany, with its advanced manufacturing, logistics, and financial industries, serves as a European Union (EU) base for many Korean companies. As workforce shortages intensify due to an aging population and low birth rates, demand for foreign talent is increasing.
Jang Younggu, Executive Director of POSCO Holdings Europe, said, "The applicants have strong language skills and a good understanding of their roles, making them ready to start immediately." He added, "However, the complexity of visa issuance and labor office administrative procedures, as well as the limited opportunities to meet Korean talent, are regrettable."
This year, the German government amended the Skilled Immigration Act to lower barriers for hiring foreign professionals. In non-regulated occupations, employment is now possible regardless of one's major, and the stay period for those with foreign qualifications has been extended. In addition, a new "Chancekarte" (Opportunity Card) system has been introduced, allowing job searching in Germany if certain requirements are met.
Participant L said, "Through interviews and consultations with various companies, I was able to obtain information necessary for preparing for employment in Germany."

Kim Eunjeong, Consul General in Frankfurt, stated, "A common challenge faced by companies entering Germany is securing talent," adding, "I hope this job fair benefits both companies and job seekers." Kim Hyuncheol, Head of the European Regional Headquarters at the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), said, "There is demand from both companies and young people in the German labor market," and emphasized, "We will continue our support to ensure tangible results."
