"1.98 Million Burgers Sold: Changnyeong Garlic Shines with 58 Tons Consumed"
Changnyeong County in South Gyeongsang Province is the largest garlic-producing region in South Korea, accounting for over 20% of the nation’s total garlic output. Last year, approximately 80,000 farming households participated in the auction, shipping more than 40,000 tons of garlic, with total transaction value exceeding 160 billion won. As the auction volume increases each year, the auction price of Changnyeong garlic has become a key indicator for setting garlic prices nationwide.
The "Taste of Korea" project, launched by McDonald's Korea in 2021, aims to introduce new menu items using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients and to promote mutual growth with local farmers. Each year, commercials feature local farmers themselves and showcase Korean agricultural products such as green onions from Jindo in South Jeolla Province, sweet potatoes from Iksan in North Jeolla Province, and garlic from Changnyeong in South Gyeongsang Province.

Since its re-release, it has attracted significant attention and enthusiastic responses from consumers. On September 26, Changnyeong County announced, "During the August launch period, about 1.98 million burgers were sold, using a total of 58 tons of Changnyeong fresh garlic, which greatly contributed to boosting consumption of local agricultural products."
The county explained that the rich garlic flavor and thick patty captivated consumers’ tastes, becoming a hot topic online, especially on social networking services (SNS). It was also highlighted as a representative example of the "loconomy" philosophy, which promotes the consumption of local agricultural products and the growth of the regional economy.
