Taebaek City Cultural Foundation to Host 'Taebaek 1980's Nostalgia' Taebaek Festival on October 2-3

A Festival of Nostalgia and Community Unity
The Taebaek City Cultural Foundation (Chairman Lee Sangho) announced on September 25 that the 44th Taebaek Festival will be held at Hwangji Pond and its surrounding area from October 2 to 3.
This year's Taebaek Festival, organized as a community event to celebrate Taebaek Citizens' Day, will feature traditional mountain spirit and Dangun ancestor rituals to preserve local culture, along with a variety of citizen participation programs. In particular, to coincide with the Chuseok holiday, a wide range of performances and cultural experiences will be available for both returning residents and tourists to enjoy together.
The 2024 Taebaek Festival aims to evoke nostalgia by recreating the vibrant atmosphere of Taebaek in the 1980s, when the city had a population of 120,000 at its peak. The festival grounds will feature retro-themed programs such as the 8090 Nostalgia Photo Studio, 1980's Taebaek Street, retro experience programs, vintage costume rentals, and a live radio DJ, all designed to enhance the festive mood.
On the first day, October 2, citizen participation programs will include neighborhood competitions, the Taebaek Citizens Comedy Show, a commemorative ceremony, and a filial piety concert.
On the second day, October 3, the schedule will include the Mountain Spirit Ritual (at Jedanggol) and Dangun Ritual (at Dangun Shrine), a food-sharing event (at the Nonghyup parking lot near Hwangji Pond), a kimchi-making experience, the guerrilla event "Beat Taeboom," Masked Singer with the Taebaek Song Festival, and the 8090 Taebaek Night, among various other hands-on and performance programs.
Additionally, there will be promotional booths and a stamp tour operated by the eight districts of Taebaek, with commemorative gifts provided to participants.

A representative of the Taebaek City Cultural Foundation stated, "We have prepared a diverse range of programs so that all citizens can participate joyfully and returning residents can create special memories in Taebaek," adding, "We will do our best to promote the charm of Taebaek and establish the festival as a venue for community unity."
