Kia Gwangju Plant Worker Death... Four Employees Referred to Prosecution
In connection with the fatal industrial accident at Kia Autoland Gwangju, the police have booked four employees without detention on charges of occupational negligence resulting in death and have referred the case to the prosecution. The accident, which occurred in May, was attributed to insufficient safety measures.
The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 25th that it had referred four individuals, including the plant manager of Kia Motors Plant 3 and the safety management supervisor, to the prosecution on the 24th, stating that "they failed to fulfill their duty to prevent accidents." They are accused of causing the death of a regular employee in his 40s, identified as A, who sustained fatal head injuries from a vehicle transport machine while inspecting a completed 1-ton truck at around 6 p.m. on May 16.
The police determined that, despite the constant risk of entrapment accidents in the process, basic preventive measures such as safety covers and automatic stop control devices were lacking. It was reported that the plant reinforced its safety devices after the accident.
