Citizen Safety First... Busan Transportation Corporation Enhances Train Fire Response Capabilities
16 Joint Emergency Drills and Safety Video Production
Expanded Public Awareness for Urban Railway Fire Preparedness
Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) announced that it is strengthening its emergency response capabilities and expanding public safety campaigns to prepare for potential urban railway fires caused by incidents such as arson on trains, battery fires from personal mobility devices (PM), or portable battery packs.
From September 3 to September 18, the corporation conducted a total of 16 joint emergency response drills simulating arson scenarios inside train cabins. A total of 375 participants, including not only the corporation's employees but also fire and police personnel, took part in the drills, which were carried out in stages to closely replicate real-life situations.
To assess the cooperation system with fire and police authorities responsible for fire suppression and on-site control, three joint drills were also conducted. The drills included: the train operator's initial report and response; emergency instructions from the control center; guidance by station staff for passenger evacuation; rapid response by fire and police; fire suppression; and rescue operations, all designed to enhance practical effectiveness.
Additionally, the corporation produced a safety video of approximately three minutes titled "How to Evacuate in Case of a Fire Inside a Train," which was released through the official Busan Transportation Corporation YouTube channel. The video covers how to use the emergency communication device, safe evacuation procedures, and how to manually open the train doors, allowing citizens to repeatedly watch and prepare for real-life situations.
