Participants gathered at 9:30 a.m. at the Gyoheon Exploration Support Center in Jangheung-myeon and walked approximately 2.3 kilometers, taking time to heal and refresh themselves away from their daily routines.
Despite the forecast of rain, more than 1,000 people-including Yangju City Mayor Kang Soo-hyun, Yangju City Council Chairperson Yoon Chang-chul, city and provincial council members, heads of various institutions and social organizations, Yangju citizens, and residents from the outskirts of Seoul-attended the event, demonstrating great interest and support. The opening ceremony and congratulatory performances were also held at a location with a view of the Seokguram Grotto on Obongsan Mountain.
President Kim Sungjae stated, "We organized this contest to widely promote the existence and charm of Uiryeong."
Yangju City Mayor Kang Soo-hyun expressed, "I am grateful that so many citizens showed deep interest in Uiryeong and participated in the event," adding, "I am delighted to experience the charm of Yangju together on Uiryeong-gil, where you can see Obongsan Mountain, one of Yangju's most scenic spots."
Uiryeong-gil was originally constructed as a U.S. military operations road during the Korean War and served as a route for local residents to transport agricultural products to Seoul using ox carts. The road spans a total of 6.8 kilometers, with 3.7 kilometers in Yangju City and 3.1 kilometers in Seoul, connecting Gyoheon-ri in Jangheung-myeon, Yangju City, to Uidong in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.

Due to an armed spy infiltration incident in 1968, public access was strictly restricted for over 40 years. However, in response to continuous demands from citizens hoping for its reopening, a partial opening was allowed in July 2009. Currently, it is the only trail within Bukhansan National Park that is accessible through a reservation system.
