View original imageThe Financial Services Commission will convene all Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) from the financial sector on the 23rd to call for strengthened security management.
According to the financial industry on the 22nd, Kwon Daeyoung, Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, is scheduled to hold a current affairs review meeting with all CISOs from the financial sector at the new building of KB Kookmin Bank in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the 23rd. The number of attendees is expected to reach around 100.
This is a follow-up to the emergency current affairs review meeting on hacking incidents involving telecommunications and financial companies, presided over by Prime Minister Kim Minseok on the same day. During the meeting, Prime Minister Kim stated, "We will comprehensively overhaul the information security systems in the telecommunications and financial sectors to prevent similar hacking incidents from occurring," and instructed, "The Ministry of Science and ICT, the Financial Services Commission, the Personal Information Protection Commission, and all relevant ministries should prioritize and thoroughly implement information security measures."
Accordingly, Vice Chairman Kwon is expected to urge all CISOs in the financial sector to ensure thorough security management on the 23rd and to discuss ways to strengthen the authority of CISOs.

Meanwhile, concerns over financial security are mounting as hacking incidents have occurred in succession this year at SGI Seoul Guarantee, Welcome Financial Group, and Lotte Card. In response to the Lotte Card incident, the Financial Services Commission held an emergency countermeasure meeting and announced plans to discuss fundamental system improvements, including the introduction of punitive fines.
