Yeongsan River Office to Provide 4.9 Billion KRW for Water Source Management Area Resident Support Project
The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office announced on September 22, 2025, that it will provide 4.9 billion KRW from the Yeongsan River and Seomjin River Basin Management Fund to support nine projects in six cities and counties as part of the 2026 Special Support Project for Residents in Water Source Management Areas.
The Special Support Project for Residents is conducted annually through an open call to improve water quality, promote regional development, and enhance the living environment of residents who are subject to various activity restrictions.
This year, eight new projects totaling 5.2 billion KRW were proposed by seven cities and counties. After internal and external expert reviews, support was confirmed for five new projects (2.37 billion KRW) and four ongoing projects (2.53 billion KRW).
The new projects include the creation of a community cultural space in Damyang County, green remodeling of village halls in Boseong and Gangjin, and the renewal of the Jangheung Dam rest area.
This year, in addition to solar power, heat pump systems will be introduced in earnest, which is expected to improve cooling and heating efficiency and reduce fuel costs. Compared to conventional boilers, heat pumps reduce energy consumption by 30 to 50 percent, making them effective in cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
