96,000 Tons of Waste Generated Last Year... Reduced by Over 25%
LG Display announced on the 22nd that its Paju and Gumi plants have received the Platinum grade of the "Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL)" certification from UL Solutions, an internationally accredited institution in the field of applied safety science.
The "Zero Waste to Landfill" certification is an international standard that evaluates a company's resource circulation efforts. UL Solutions verifies the percentage of waste generated at a business site that is recycled instead of being incinerated or sent to landfill, awarding Silver (90-94%), Gold (95-99%), and Platinum (100%) grades accordingly.
With this achievement, LG Display now holds the Platinum grade at all of its domestic business sites in South Korea. The Paju plant first obtained the Platinum grade last year and succeeded in renewing it this year. The Gumi plant also significantly increased its waste recycling rate to earn the certification.
LG Display is promoting company-wide initiatives to ensure that waste previously incinerated or landfilled is recycled, from product design and manufacturing to disposal. Notably, the company has secured joint patents with its partners to recycle waste glass and waste synthetic resin generated during display production into raw materials for plastics and vinyl. This has enabled LG Display to achieve zero landfill (0%). In addition, the company has independently developed and operates a system that enables real-time monitoring of the entire waste management process, from generation to disposal. Furthermore, LG Display continues efforts to fundamentally reduce waste generation through eco-friendly product development and process improvements. Last year, the total waste generated at all domestic LG Display sites was approximately 96,000 tons, a reduction of more than 25% compared to about 128,000 tons in 2022.
LG Display plans to obtain "Zero Waste to Landfill" certification for all of its overseas manufacturing subsidiaries by the end of this year and to achieve Platinum grade at all domestic and overseas sites by 2030.

Meanwhile, LG Display was also recognized for its resource circulation efforts by additionally acquiring the "Recycled Resource Quality Certification" for waste synthetic resin. The "Recycled Resource Quality Certification" is granted by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment to waste materials that do not contain hazardous substances or foreign matter. Materials that receive this certification are recognized as resources, not waste. Through this initiative, LG Display has reduced waste by approximately 600 tons annually.
