Goheung County Sky Park 80% Complete... Advance Applications for Interment Begin in October
Applications Accepted at Town and Township Offices and the Resident Welfare Division of Goheung County Office
Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced that the Goheung County Sky Park Construction Project, a long-awaited initiative for local residents, has surpassed 80% completion and is now entering its final stages. As part of preparations for the official opening, advance applications for interment will begin in October.
Residents can pre-register for interment by visiting their nearest town or township office, or the Resident Welfare Division at Goheung County Office. The specific location for interment will be assigned in order, based on the actual date the remains are brought to the facility after the official opening.
This project, with a total budget of 19.7 billion won, is being developed in the Hoheung-ri area of Goheung-eup. Goheung County Sky Park will feature facilities such as a columbarium, natural burial grounds (lawn type), memorial park, and parking lot. The capacity of the columbarium (16,160 niches) and natural burial grounds (2,214 plots) has been expanded beyond the original plan, significantly improving convenience for county residents.
Goheung County Sky Park will be available to residents who have lived in Goheung for at least six months and their immediate family members, those relocating existing graves within the county, unclaimed deceased individuals if their immediate family members are interred at the park, and foreign nationals who have passed away within the county, provided certain conditions are met.
The usage fees are set at 800,000 won for an individual columbarium niche (1.6 million won for non-residents), 1.6 million won for a couple's niche (3.2 million won for non-residents), 500,000 won for a natural burial plot (1 million won for non-residents), and 10,000 won for scattering ashes in the memorial park. The usage period is 30 years, with a one-time extension of 30 years allowed. Unclaimed remains are eligible only within the county, with a fee of 100,000 won for five years, and maintenance fees are charged separately.
Governor Gong Youngmin stated, "I hope the Sky Park will not only serve as a space for interment but also as a place where residents can find both remembrance and rest. We are doing our utmost to ensure that, through advance applications, residents can use the facility smoothly from the moment it opens."
