Undergraduate students majoring in AR·VR Media Design at Sangmyung University have emerged as leading next-generation researchers in immersive content, after winning awards for two outstanding papers at the Korea Media Art Industry Association's academic conference.

Sangmyung University announced on the 19th that two teams of undergraduate students from the College of Design's AR·VR Media Design major were each selected for outstanding thesis awards at the recent Korea Media Art Industry Association academic conference.

The paper selected as an outstanding thesis, "Planning a Convergent Art Exhibition for Urban Citizens: Reinterpreting the Sea," drew attention for its innovative approach of using media art and immersive content to newly express the sea, aiming to provide psychological stability and emotional relaxation to modern urban residents.

This research was conducted by second-year students Eunbyul Kang, Jungeun Lee, and Pureum Heo.

Another outstanding thesis, "Immersive Exhibition Planning Hwase: The Palace Flower Blooms with Thread," is an experiential exhibition plan that sensuously implements the process from the creation to the completion of thread by combining traditional embroidery and knotting with AR·VR and media art. This study was jointly carried out by second-year students Seungha Kim and Jimin Lim.

Both papers resonated with academic and industry professionals for their original topics, delicate expression, and immersive development, and were highly evaluated for their potential to expand into cultural tourism content.

Seungha Kim stated, "Although there were many challenges during the preparation of the thesis, it was a great learning opportunity," adding, "I hope to continue with even deeper research in the future."

Professor Kim Wonjae, the supervising professor, said, "I am delighted that the students achieved results at the academic conference with the theme of immersive media," and added, "We will continue to actively support their academic challenges and growth."

The AR·VR Media Design major at Sangmyung University is dedicated to cultivating creative talent with the ability to plan and produce content based on immersive media technology, through an integrated curriculum encompassing design, engineering, humanities, and marketing.
