Kim Giwon, CEO of HLB Ocean Tech, Receives Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award on "Shipbuilding & Marine Day"
HLB Ocean Tech announced on September 18 that CEO Kim Giwon was awarded the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award in recognition of his contributions to the development of the shipbuilding and marine industries, commemorating "Shipbuilding & Marine Day."
CEO Kim has dedicated 27 years to the shipbuilding and offshore plant sector, leading the localization of key equipment. He was highly praised for strengthening competitiveness by pioneering overseas markets.
"Shipbuilding & Marine Day" was established in 1997 to commemorate Korea surpassing 10 million tons in ship orders. Each year, the event honors individuals who have contributed to the advancement of the industry.
CEO Kim has worked to localize equipment with high import dependency, such as helicopter transfer devices for naval vessels and service cranes for offshore wind power. He is leading Korea's first research project to automate the retrieval system of cranes, which were previously operated manually, by participating in the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute's core technology development project. He is also at the forefront of developing core equipment for future military logistics systems, including autonomous towing devices for unmanned helicopters and aircraft, as well as sonar winches for mine and submarine detection.
Last year, HLB Ocean Tech achieved exports worth approximately 2.78 million dollars. The company was designated as a "Promising Export Small Business," recognizing its excellent management performance. In the first half of this year, export performance increased by 36% compared to the same period last year, continuing its steep growth trajectory.
CEO Kim Giwon stated, "This award is a valuable achievement made possible by the dedication and hard work of all our employees," adding, "We will continue to enhance our proprietary technology and pursue ongoing innovation to elevate the status of Korean shipbuilding and marine technology in the global market and contribute to improving the industry's competitiveness."
