Systematic Management Needed for Special Education Zones Reflecting Regional Characteristics
"Changes Must Be Tangible for Parents and Students"

Kim Junghee, Chairperson of the Education Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly, recently urged for close cooperation with local governments to enhance the effectiveness of the Jeonnam Office of Education's Special Education Development Zone project during the second meeting of the Education Committee at the 393rd extraordinary session.

The Office of Education, together with 21 local education support offices (excluding Jangheung County), is operating various Special Education Development Zone programs tailored to the characteristics of each region. These programs aim to expand learning opportunities for students and bridge educational gaps.

However, Chairperson Kim pointed out that some projects are limited to "showcase" events or one-off programs, making it difficult to achieve sustainable outcomes. She stated, "The Special Education Zone projects must be designed to suit local circumstances, and collaboration with local governments is essential," adding, "Systematic project planning and performance management are crucial."

She also mentioned the need to create tangible changes that parents and students can directly experience, emphasizing the importance of clarifying the roles of the education support offices and the main office, as well as strengthening oversight and supervision.

Meanwhile, Chairperson Kim added, "The 21 education support offices should cooperate in a balanced way with each local government and prevent unnecessary duplication and budget waste during the project process." She stressed, "The main office must strengthen its support system so that the Special Education Development Zone can become a model for Jeonnam-style regional education innovation."
