West Sea Coast Guard Enhances Port and Harbor Location Identification...Improves Rescue Response Capability
Rapid and Accurate Location Sharing During Port and Harbor Emergencies
Efforts to Secure the Golden Hour for Rescue Operations
The West Sea Regional Coast Guard announced on September 17 that, in order to respond swiftly to various maritime accidents occurring at ports and harbors, it has worked together with the National Geographic Information Institute and the Jeonnam and Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters to enhance the accuracy of the "Electronic Map of Detailed Port and Harbor Names" and "Detailed Area Maps," as well as to establish a collaborative system for joint patrol activities.
To address the existing problem of people having difficulty accurately reporting accident locations during emergencies at sea, the West Sea Coast Guard began displaying the detailed names of a total of 196 local ports and harbors on the "National Land Information Platform Electronic Map" provided by the National Geographic Information Institute, starting from September 4.
The National Geographic Information Institute is a government agency under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for surveying and managing the geographic information of the nation.
Meanwhile, under the leadership of the West Sea Coast Guard, detailed area maps of major ports and harbors in Gunsan, Mokpo, and Yeosu (including Gunsan Bieung Port, Mokpo North Port and South Port, Yeosu New Port, and Gukdong Port) were created and shared with the Jeonnam and Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters. This initiative has improved joint rescue response capabilities by enabling the rapid deployment of rescue teams during emergencies, and has also institutionalized regular joint patrol activities.
