KOSPI Falls During Session on Net Selling by Institutions and Foreign Investors
On the 17th, after 12 trading days of gains, the KOSPI halted its upward trend and started lower. As of 10:24 AM on September 17, the KOSPI was trading at 3,414.51, down 1.03% from the previous day.
By investor type, institutions and foreigners were net sellers of 53.6 billion won and 143.6 billion won, respectively, while individuals were net buyers of 175.5 billion won. In the futures market, foreigners were net sellers of 623.4 billion won, while institutions and individuals were net buyers of 455.8 billion won and 195.9 billion won, respectively.
By sector, more industries were declining than rising. The securities sector was down 2.69%, insurance down 2.6%, construction down 2.56%, electrical and electronics down 1.83%, machinery and equipment down 1.56%, finance down 1.25%, manufacturing down 1.09%, medical precision down 0.79%, pharmaceuticals down 0.73%, non-metals down 0.48%, and metals down 0.39%. On the other hand, the entertainment and culture sector was up 1.64%, telecommunications up 0.49%, food, beverage, and tobacco up 0.22%, and chemicals up 0.18%.
Among large-cap stocks, more were falling than rising. Samsung Electronics was down 2.27%, SK Hynix down 3.09%, Samsung Biologics down 0.77%, Hanwha Aerospace down 0.77%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries down 0.2%, Kia down 0.39%, and Doosan Enerbility down 2.69%. Conversely, LG Energy Solution was up 1.43%, KB Financial Group up 0.17%, Hyundai Motor up 0.23%, and Hanwha Ocean up 1.81%.
The KOSDAQ index was also weak. At the same time, the KOSDAQ was trading at 847.15, down 0.55% from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners were net sellers of 49.9 billion won and 87.5 billion won, respectively, while individuals were net buyers of 144.1 billion won.
Most of the large-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ were also weak. Alteogen was down 1.22%, Peptron down 1.5%, PharmaResearch down 0.96%, Rainbow Robotics down 1.03%, ABL Bio down 0.59%, Legochem Bio down 0.73%, HLB down 0.26%, Samchundang Pharm down 0.69%, and Kolon TissueGene down 1.72%. On the other hand, Ecopro BM was up 1.06%, and Ecopro was also up 1.52%.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate was trading at 1,380.7 won, up 1.2 won from the previous day.
