Seoul Kicks Off Uisinseol Line Extension Project ... Signs Contract with HL D&I Halla Consortium
Three New Stations to Connect Solbat Park Station and Banghak Station
Priority Construction and Detailed Design to Proceed Simultaneously
The long-stalled Uisinseol Line extension project is finally getting on track. The project aims to connect Solbat Park Station on the Uisinseol Line with Banghak Station on Line 1, with completion targeted for 2032.
On the 17th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it had signed a construction contract-including detailed design-with the "HL D&I Halla Consortium," which was selected as the preferred bidder for the detailed design of the Uisinseol Line extension project. The city will now begin detailed design work across all areas, including priority construction, civil engineering, architecture, track, and system sectors.
The Uisinseol Line extension was initially planned as a privately funded project that would integrate the extension into the existing line. However, the project was delayed for an extended period after being converted to a government-funded initiative in 2020. When construction companies avoided bidding due to economic concerns, the city decided to combine the civil engineering and system sectors into a single contract and adjusted construction costs to reflect market realities, instead of issuing separate tenders.
The extension will link the current Solbat Park Station on the Uisinseol Line with Banghak Station on Line 1, adding a total of 3.94 kilometers and three new stations (including a transfer at Banghak Station). The total project cost is 469 billion won, and the entire construction period has been set at 79 months after a review of the construction schedule's appropriateness. Completion is targeted for 2032.
The contract signed this time covers priority construction work that will proceed in parallel with the detailed design. By September next year, the city plans to complete the priority construction, detailed design, and various impact assessments. During the design phase, a thorough underground safety impact assessment will also be conducted to prevent the risk of ground subsidence.
Once the extension opens, direct transfers between the Uisinseol Line and Line 1 will be possible, significantly improving public transportation convenience and easing commuting difficulties for residents in the northeastern area of Seoul.
